Is anyone worried about ADCOM's figuring out who you are from what you say on SDN?

I have spoken with multiple deans who think this website is a waste of time and energy. In fact, one in particular says he checks every week and tries to figure out who is who. That is why I don't give any exact stats like DAT PAT GPA etc. I give ranges like 20+.

What do you guys think about this? I still think that figuring out one person in 12,000-16,000 would be hard to do and a waste of their time. But not impossible.

I think they would be crazy and wasting valuable supplementary fee as they have no control over accounts creation.

to be honest, it sounds more like an empty threat than a reality. no way in hell could they keep all your info straight and correlate it with the info on ALL of the applications they recieve and go through, or heck, even interview

I agree that if ADCOMs tried to track us down here it would both be a waste of time and utterly pointless.

ADCOM: I've finally figured it out! Based on this person's state of residence, scores, demographics, and schools applied to, I have pinpointed his identity to Applicant #1,251. It is apparent that this student is nervous about his interviews and hopes his DAT scores are high enough! We'll see about his fate!

i think it would be pretty easy to figure some out...eg...i hav an interview tomorrow...i am married...i out of state from such and such state...come on...i think it would be pretty easy to figure out the ones that are asking pre-interview questions...not that it's a bad thing...unless you were giving away dat questions...then you might want to worry

i also think it would be pretty easy... all our stats along w our school and year of graduation would pretty much pinpoint all of us i think, and thats even before we get to interview dates

as another poster noted, as long as you are respectful and are here for genuine reasons, i dont think it really makes a difference. this forum by no means is upheld by any professinal standards, its an informal support network. and in the end we should be allowed to do and say what we like without the fear of "big brother" coming to get us.

its one adcom guys. and mostly i am sure they read it to get their amusement from our overextrapolation and analysis on every minute detail of the app process.


best and worse case scenario: we come off as eager & overly anxious pre dents. they cannot reject applicants based on what goes on here, that's completely ludicrous!

Well, if said dean is pathetic enough to try and divine the identities of applicants based on their postings on SDN then surely it can't be a total waste of time. Yes, adcoms are familiar with the site, and yes, many of them do pop in once and a while. Some are curious to read the interview feedback section while others see what the applicants are talking about (such as their school, etc.). As long as you're posting history isn't suggestive of a psychopath you really have nothing to worry about.

okay so here is the question, why do adcoms care/hate SDN?

I don't need to relax because I am not freakin out, I just have some questions to discuss.

Why would Brian Trecek from marquette make an empty threat while at my school? Has anyone ever bashed him, or marquette, openly on here? I know that with the exception of shuna, nobody will ever know who I am because I don't give stats, my screenname has nothing to do with me, and I am top secret.

I just think it is funny that he and another adcom care so passionately about if you are on here or not. I think it would effect your standing with marquette actually, based on the threat he gave us.

That would suck if I cost someone else a spot because I am who I am. I think it could come into play if they saw that I said something like, "It is my backup school and I am only going to the interview because I want to go to Fl or NY or see a pal, etc." Or " It is on the bottom of my list"

I also think they would like to dispell any negative rumors about the school. Maybe there are adcoms who pretend to be predents just to persuade us of certain things.

Also If they really take half the stuff us overly stressed, paranoid, and desperate predents say in the heat of an application cycle seriously enough to not let someone into their school...maybe you don't want to go to a school with that environment anyways.

Think about a school that gets 5,000 applicants. Think about the chances of correlating one of those 5,000 with one of the thousands of SDNers. An adcom might know someone ahead of time.

Like if you had a username that is similar to your real name (Doctor Pardi, pardi is my last name, and pardi is a pretty rare last name) an adcom member might notice you before hand and then notice you applying to their school. However, I doubt they would be able to do it the other way around, where they see some random name on an application and want to find that applicant on sdn.

Plus, does it even matter? If you're a troll and go around making yo' momma jokes on the forums then that's probably just bad karma lol.

One thing to remember is that some schools have student interview. Their inputs are important and can affect your acceptance. Regardless, it's not wise to reveal your identity on the net. Better to be safe than sorry. You'll never know who may be lurking on SDN.

I used to have all of my info in my signature and removed it for this reason.

Even if they knew who I was they probably wouldn't have any problems with the things I post on this site, but it's better to not make an issue out of it by handing all of my information to anyone that reads any post of mine.

I did not go back and delete old posts though. I'm sure there are plenty where I post my DAT scores or interview dates.
