I haven't been on SDN in a while (apathy? who knows), but an episode of Nip/Tuck brought me back to SDN-land last night.

To set the scene, there is a plane crash and tons of injured people. They crowd them into a gymnasium. While trying to recruit doctors to help out, the most SDN-esque pre-med sentence ever gets spit out. Perhaps not the exact conversation, but it's essentially this:

Recruiting Doctor: I can't let her [another Dr's wife] in
Plastic Surgeon: She's not a doctor, but she can help
Recruiting Doctor: [To the wife] Do you have your RN?
Wife: I took one year of pre-med courses!

I don't know why, but that had me laughing as I thought of some pre-med on here actually saying that in this exact situation.

I full accept that I may possibly be crazy, but I'm still lol'ing over it

Perhaps she would be able to pipet some antibiotic ointment to wounds with correct number of sig figs.

and appropriately fudge the values to make her yield 90%+

Here we come all-students. But this had me laughing for a solid 30 seconds.

i remember watching that scene and cringing at that statement. but i did love that show until they ran out of ideas.

 As a computer science major I see things like that pertaining to my field quite often..!!

I forget what show this was but it was an OR and in the middle of the surgery one of the computer starts malfunctioning and one of the OR nurses saves the day as she had a minor in CS.!!!

First of all we must ask the bitch how she did in said premed courses. Also, many premeds don't even know how to correctly pipet (they just BS results), so unfortunately she'll end up killing the patient with her inadequate pipetting techniques.

Grey's Anatomy

It was during a surgery by McDreamy. And he needed it fixed ASAP because he couldn't see where he was going. And the nurse he once dated briefly stepped in and saved the day.

let the hazing commence...

wow you watch that garbage?? One of the most ridiculous shows on TV, makes the medical profession look like a bunch of sleazy sluts and gigolos that sleep around and **** all day.

Oh, GOD, that reminds me of something that happened at a blood drive I was working. A donor passed out at the canteen and I, being trained to do so, hauled her onto a gurney and took her to the recovery area. One of the volunteers from the drive's hosts immediately comes over and all but shoves me out of the way, saying, "Don't worry - I'm a premed!"

As she starts to come to, he tries to help her sit up. I had to actually exercise a little power and force him to stop, and then I called over a phlebotomist (who was on break, no less - I got a lot of crap for it later) so I could pull this guy aside and talk to him about his limitations as a volunteer.

The worst part? They guy wasn't EMT, CPR, or First Aid certified! And he was a first-term freshman. He had no idea what to do with someone who had fainted.

Oh, ridiculous premeds. Why must you give a bad name to us all?

Yeah, I remember that. What I also find funny is that Christian admits to have graduated at the bottom of his class, and so did Bobolit, and yet they both made it into plastic surgery. Oh yeah, Sean and Christian also started their own practice when they were 26.
