I posted something similar last year, will try again if people are interested this year. Anyone interested in a little get-together of Irish SDNers? Those of us who've been here awhile can help answer some questions the newer ones might have, and it might be interesting just to meet up 😉.

I dunno! you're the only person who's responded! 🙂
I'm up for it too! Just didn't know whether or not to respond since no one else did!
I'll be back in Dublin from Dec 10-18 if anyone wants to meet up then. If any Canadians want a first hand account of getting back home (I am currently a resident in the Queen's Family Medicine program in Kingston, Ontario), working in Ireland as a Canadian or going to Australia as a Canadian trained in Ireland - I'd be more than happy to meet up with you and try to answer some questions ... over a pint of Guinness preferably 😀 Of course this does not preclude anyone else!!!
Okay, sure. Thanks pattycanuck! But people may not be around then because of holidays or gone home to do electives/interviews.
Trinity people won't be here til first week of October, so maybe we'll do it then eh? 🙂
It's easier said than done, but all effort need to be made to complete outside "requirements" during the summers or holiday breaks. For reasons outside our control (a lot of places won't let you do electives til final year, etc.), this isn't always possible. At the moment, we don't really know what the situation is...
Of course, universities can't advocate US students going home for electives or USMLE study or interviews, because it can't be controlled. All students then would want to do something or other and there would be mass exodus. But on the other hand, it's not like we're leaving for an extended vacation...we're going home to do work.
So it's chance. They can try to enforce it and threaten us by saying attendance is mandatory, but at the moment, they don't have the means of enforcing it if we continue to pass our exams and prove to be competent doctors. It's not clinical work we're missing (which would be different), it's tutorials/lectures. This may change in the future. And it's not like we want to miss, it's just that sometimes it may be absolutely necessary in order to fulfill requirements for going back home, if we haven't been able to fulfill those requirements during the holidays (most of us have been studying/electives during summers too so where to fit everything in can be a problem).

I'd be down with a meet-up 😀
that's an awesome avatar
Erik Zabel is the man
If people are still up for this, wanna try Sunday late afternoon around 4:30-5:00 ish? Before the Trin people have to start lectures 🙂. I'd suggest somewhere in town... Fitzsimmons in Temple Bar is rather spacious 🙂. Although I reckon it's too short notice for the Cork people to come... ?
If any of you are looking for a good time to have a meet-up, I'd suggest the 17th November. Glasgow medical school are coming to Dublin for our annual trip abroad (sans me - I'm not going to pay good money to go to Dublin of all places - I tried to warn them 🙂 ) and I heard rumours that Dundee are also planning to travel. The Dublin medical schools have been notified and are planning a huge combined night out. You guys haven't heard anything about this yet?
Nope...but it might not have filtered through yet, if the respective people sent it out to class reps and all that. I don't know how many people are actually active in IMSA either. Anyway, not that they'd tell us final years anything because we will be just done with the first set of finals then and wouldn't really be focusing on anything else, and people are leaving en masse for the week break before tutorials start 🙂
WOW, it seems amazing
i wish i can join 🙁
