Poll question's posted ^. When I hear someone say "I got an A in [insert course here], I assume they mean A as in 4.00 A. However, I've recently realized that a lot of people say A even when they get an A-, which doesn't bug me--far from it. I'm just hoping to improve my conversation comprehension when grade gossiping with my pals.

I hate when people don't clarify whether they have A+ or A-, totally messes up my blood doping cycle

When I say I got an A, I mean an A, A- are not As.

Word. When they tell me they have A, I ask them, "are you positive?" and that's when things get hairy.

lol. Same here!

jk... Yeah couldn't care less really. I mean, I want them to feel good about their achievements, so who cares if they got an A+ or a B-, seriously? Of course I'd rather they do well, but an A+ doesn't "threaten" me and their C doesn't make me superior so what gives?
If they say they got an A, I'm going to assume it was an A and congratulate them for it.

When i say it i mean a solid 84-89%

An A vs an A- is very small. Who cares! I've got several A+'s on my transcript but I don't run around telling everyone I got an A+ like a d-bag. You know why? Because an A+ is factored into my transcript the same way as an A. No extra GPA points.

Whenever someone bitches about getting an A- instead of an A they should be punched in the face on principle.

'I'm a pathological liar. I've gotten A's in courses that I have not taken, at universities that I do not attend, and I've done all of that "without trying."
The previous statement is false. Or am I lying?'

I think that pretty much sums up anonymous forums.

My school doesn't do +'s and -'s. It's nice when you make a 91 in a class, but sucks when you make an 89.

hmmm. At our school A- = 3.66 and A = 4.00, is this not the case elsewhere (particularly, rHino1's school)

at my school A- = 3.7

A = A+ = 4.0

My point is that if an A = A+ then the whole +/- is a bunch of B.S. IMO
Now, a B+ is a 3.3 and it is much better to have an A- (3.7) than a B+ (3.3). To me an A(+/-) is an A no matter how you look at it.

My school does not used a +/- system. If it did I would work a bit harder to push all my 91% A's (which are pretty much all of them) higher.

Most school use the +/-.3 system, as does AMCAS. This might be helpful to your GPA!

I usually tell people I got an A regardless of the grade I recived. It boosts my ego, and chicks love it.

just wondering 🙂

Fortunately, at my school we don't have to make the distinction 🙂

My school doesn't do -/+ on our transcripts. An A is a 4.0 and a B is a 3.0, regardless of the percentage.

I've never been to a school where we've had +/-, so I just say A. If we did have +/-, I think I'd be specific...A+, A-, whatever. Like was said previously, it does suck getting an 89 and having to list it as a B...but at least we get a 4.0 for our 90s...

Only certain classes at my school use the +/- system, and of course everybody hates those classes! It is total BS though, because there isn't an A+ in those courses, only A, A-, and below. So if you ever get one A-, there goes your 4.0 GPA.

There is no +/- at my school. Even if there was, A- is an A.

I try my hardest not to discuss my grades with other students because it is really hard to not come off as bragging when you have a high GPA.

But if someone were to ask I would probably say the exact grade, but I do not consider it lying to say you got an A if you got an A-.

If I'm intentionally being vague because someone is being nosy I'll say I got an A even if it's A-. Usually I clarify though.

I hate talking about my grades with people because I have a high GPA and I don't want them to feel like I'm trying to brag

Ditto. I try not to discuss grades, MCAT scores, how many interviews I have, etc. Only makes you look like a douche, or worse yet, people ask you for advice about studying and exams...there isn't an easy way to tell people that they just need to be smarter!

At our school, A+ = 4.0 = 90-100; A = 3.9 = 85-89; A- = 3.7 =80-84. Obviously everything below really hurts your avg craazzy, esp those C's 🙁

I think of an A as an A. My academic adviser thinks it includes A-s, though.

If I say I got an A I got a real A. I don't like to misrepresent myself. If I got an A- I'll say I got an A-.

I say I got an A even if I get C's

I'd say I'm pretty hardcore.

The school I went to my freshman year didn't do +/- system. But then when I transferred I found out the one I am going to currently changed to that system a few years before I came here. What a disappointment it was when I found out I was going to have to work harder. Our lowest A is either a 93 or 94.

My school does the +/- for every course, but similarly there is no A+, so anything above 92% is just a regular old A ( which personally I find ridiculous)

Our A- = 3.7

i always say A.. no matter what grade..

on forums where noone knows me, it dont matter.. i tell the truth..

A+= 90+
A = 83-89
A-= 80-83

I think their going a little to easy on us.

Are you serious dude?!? That's quite amazing. At my school, an 80 is a solid B- lol

I'd say I'm pretty hardcore.

I'd say you're pretty much a liar.

But honestly, who cares. Hardcore is definitely not the word I'd use, however...
