There's a class that lets us annotate the genome of a phage and later analyze it. There's an option to go present a poster at a national conference at HHMI. But that means some more work on my part and it doesn't exactly seem too useful. It is mostly for undergraduates without prior research experience. http://seaphages.org/meetings/17/ However, I don't have any posters/presentations from my own research in a lab (going on for a year now). Also, everything would be paid for!

So basically my question is should I work on this project on the side while studying for the MCAT, and working on my own research or just leave it be?

The MCAT is far more important. Focus on that and keep up with your research

If you are able to work on this project and keep up your studies AND study hard for the MCAT at the same time, it would be a good idea to go if you are enthusiastic.
