Searching for Residency with Google Maps

I'm not sure if anyone here knows how to program within the Google Gadget API, but if you do, I have an idea that might be interesting: creating a mini-program (or mashup) that allows you to use Google Maps to search for Radiology (or any other speciality) residency programs within a certain mile radius of a zip code or street address. Huh? What do you think? Anyone know how to program that?
