I want to apply to a program as a second bachelor's seeking student. The only majors they have available for fall '08 are engineering and CS. Now I'm not against either of these since my original goal when going to school was to do computer science/engineering....but for med school it's not my first option. Do you guys think it's possible to apply as an engineer, and then just take my own classes as I feel? I don't even plan on finishing the degree...not as of now anyways. Do you think they'd stop me from taking my own courses (ie upper div Bio, chem, upper div math etc...)?

Oh yea, I should also clarify. This is meant to be postbac for me for the main purpose of GPA boosting. I have all of my prereqs already since I was a Biochem and math double major. I need to do A LOT of postbac work since I have many units. My bio/science GPA isn't horrible (around a 3.4ish) but I really messed up in math. Even though I love math, it was stupid of me to major in it back then. At the time I didn't fully consider medicine, and I thought that doing poorly in my maths (since they aren't pre reqs ) wouldn't hurt me...I was so stupid I really wish I'd found sdn as an UG(there were other reasons for my performance too but I have to stop rambling). Anyways so now I'm sitting on a 2.8 GPA and I need to get it up. It's going to take me a good 4+ semesters plus summers. This is why I want to do second degree and not just pay per unit to take a few classes.

I don't think they'll stop you but check with the school.

I'm a little apprehensive about calling the school and asking them about a way to circumvent their rules. My basic plan is to apply to engineering, maybe take a few of the required classes if they are BCMP and basically just pick and choose upper div bio/math/physics/chem courses as I see fit, with no intention of ever graduating with a degree in engineering.

I don't know about the school, but some schools make you sit down with a counselor and get your classes approved before you can register.

Yea, thats why you're better off being honest and checking. Many schools won't mind, and if they do, they probably wouldn't have just let you take courses anyway. I know some schools like UNCG are best for this stuff since they have open-enrollment and are relatively cheap, even for OOS students.
