The interest was expressed to let it be known from what background we have all come from. So I will start.

I was trained by OSU Aviation to be a pilot and received my BS in Aviation Management(odd to be pilot then physician, but it works)

I have ~140 hrs in single engine land planes...

Also, I have been married since 1997 to the gorgeous mother of our three lovely children 5,3,1...

I am Tulsa born Tulsa bred...

Our desire is to eventually become Medical Missionaries for part of every year in a yet unknown local...

there I am sure is more but this is for the most part me

At 25, I knew I didn't want to become a public relations professional.

I liked the entry level technical aspect of PR and journalism, but just couldn't see myself in charge of peons like myself. I decided to pursue a career that would really challenge me and let me interact with people.

So less than three years later, I'm accepted into med school. It has been by far the most intense time in my life. Pre-reqs, MCAT, less money.

IT'S ALL WORTH IT!

If any non-trads are reading this, my advice: Find a career that you love, no matter what it is or what it takes to get there.

I started in journalism because I was good at it and wanted to do hospital PR.

I got my degree in 99', hated job hunting and felt a calling to play music. I studied guitar at the University of Central Oklahoma for a year (I wonder if I'll ever not want to be a rock star?). I then got offered a good job in PR and worked for two and a half years.

Everthing I have done to this point has prepared me for this point. I believe that life experience counts for a great deal.

[Hmmm, I wonder if I'll sue myself for plagiarising my personal statement?]

Bartender screw-up for 5 years...bartender college student for 5 years, now and MS-2....feels even better being here guys. Look foward to meeting you in February.

Here's my basic background:
Middle school science teacher
stay-at-home mom
college instructor
health administrator for a non-profit professional organization

Now MS2 with Idiopathic. 😀

Well, I grew up in South Florida, at a place called Cape Coral near Ft. Myers and Naples. I moved to OK in 92'. I started school at Bacone in 93' for xray. Graduated in 96', went to NSU in Tahlequah until 99'. Graduated with a degree in Cell. Bio. Started my family in 98'. I did not devote enough time to school at NSU or taking the MCAT in 98, so my grades and scores were average. I applied to OSU for 99, but was informed that I did not make it. Went back to school in 2001 to get my MS at OSU. Thought I wanted to get into the environmental field, so I studied ecotoxicology. I did very well, and then one day while at work in surgery Dr. Blackmon( an Ortho and a great guy) said, "Just think, you could be doing this right now", as he was hammering in a long gamma nail. Of course he knew my educational history and that I originally wanted to become an Orthopedic Surgeon. But that one statement made me realize that I really needed to persue my true calling. The next week, I signed up for the MCAT(second time I took it), did very well, and proceded to apply for medical school. And here I am, more excited than I have ever been, finally realizing that my dream is coming true.

I now have a modern day family, her's, mine, and ours,(Jacob, Conner, and Maverick our three sons, respectively). My wife is the coolest person I have ever met, and my life just keeps getting better.

I too would like to do medical missions,,, this is the conflict I have with becoming an Orthopod, I may end up in Emergency Med. But surgery sure is cool...........

I can't wait to meet everyone.... better say this now, after spending everyday for 4 years with you, well you know...LOL:laugh:

I've been a Paramedic for almost 4 years in central Texas, and I recently received a bachelor's degree in forensic science from Baylor University.

I was born and raised in the Dallas area, and this will be my first time living out of state. I plan to practice emergency medicine and become an EMS medical director.

My only family is my mom and dad. No siblings....no wives....no children....

well one thing is sure, i seem to be in good company thus far

any idea location of where you all want to practice? thoughts...

Hawaii would be cool a short while...

I was thinking of here in Tulsa, or maybe in Idaho somewhere,, up in the mountains,,, the sky is the limit now... love to scuba dive,,,, maybe Honduras, out on Ganaha or Roatan.......sweeeet.... realy, there is no telling... I will go where God tells me to go.........with a smile....😀

Now, THAT sounds like a GoOd Plan!

I plan on doing my residency in emergency medicine at a level I or II trauma center, preferably in texas or oklahoma.

My top choices are Oklahoma City, Dallas, and Temple/Austin.

Hopefully OKC will stay accredited.

I'll probably practice at a suburban ER near one of those cities.
