Hi everyone. I got accepted to a public university for the MSW program. I'm having some last minute jitters. On the one hand I tell myself that this is a flexible degree that will open up many new possibilities for me. On the other hand I keep hearing about the high burn out rate, the emotional drain, the very low pay..... The thing that scares me the most is that there are absolutely no jobs right now. I know of a couple of MSW graduates and they haven't been able to find anything for many months now. There's no guarantee that it will get better. It would really be terrible to go through the two years of school, tuition, free internships, and then not be able to find anything. I had the most horrible time even finding an internship, and they are unpaid work.... What happens when all these hundreds of students graduate and begin applying for the exact same job.
So I'm just having a tough time deciding what to do. I'm wondering if anyone could please share their thoughts. It would be great to hear from those who love what they do, and also from those who feel they shouldn't have gone this route. And what some possible alternatives are. Thanks so much!
