Hi all! I am very fortunate to have been accepted at one of my top schools for next year, and as of right now I plan to matriculate there. Unfortunately, their second look day falls when I will be out of town for my club sport's national competition. My team and I compete Thursday, and the second look is Friday. Theoretically, I could drive to the school from nationals (5 hours) Thursday night/evening, attend the official second look events on Friday, then drive the 5 hours back to nationals Friday night. Saturday is arguably one of the most important days for my team at nationals since we have a lot of traditions that take place right before the closing banquet Saturday night, so I really do not want to miss Saturday. This means I would miss out on all of the more informal second look events Friday night and Saturday. The team is super chill, so it's not like I would get in trouble for missing Friday, I'd just miss the hangout and relaxation time
I feel like generally it's not a huge deal to miss second look, especially since I have the nationals excuse and am pretty sure about the school anyway, but I don't like the idea of missing out on meeting new people and possible roommates as well as just being sad to not go. I currently don't know anyone planning to attend this school and have yet to be invited to their accepted students group chat since my acceptance two months ago, so I don't really have a lot of other opportunities at the moment to meet other prospective students.
I do know a current M3 at this school who was on the same club sports team I'm a part of who told me he missed second look for nationals, and it wasn't a big deal, but he also was able to live with someone he knew from undergrad. I'm just super conflicted on whether it's worse to miss the networking and events of second look or to miss out on the time with my team and part of my last nationals. I feel like I have good reasons for both options, so I wanted some outside perspective on the issue, thanks!!
