Second looks

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
It probably doesn't make a big difference, but it can't hurt (unless you somehow manage to piss a bunch of people off). I did one yesterday. 😀 I live in town, and am not doing much these couple weeks, so I figured, why not? It was a nice excuse to get back into the OR again. 😉

I might go on one or two visits to my top choices, but this is mainly for my own interest. I dont think going for a second visit weighs heavy on the programs opinion of you, I mean if they liked you on interview day they are probably still going to like you (they pretty much have their rankings decided after the interview day is over). But I completely agree with amy about the potential to hurt your chances if you piss someone off.

Once again jmatt is droppin knowledge (I suggest you all take heed). Just my two cents...I received an e-mail from a program that I interviewed with last month. They are going to bring me back for a second look...I figured why not? I just hope I don't piss anyone off 🙂

Would it be okay to e-mail the PD and ask if my doing a second look is worthwhile? I mean if I have no chance of matching at the program, no matter how much I am in love with the program, it would just be a waste of money and time for me, right? What y'all think??

I think it would be fine to ask, but I don't think you should infer much from the answer. I would be surprised if the PD said no, unless they don't do 2nd looks at all. The secretary would be able to tell you that. I doubt the PD would take out your interview file and look it over before responding.

Just my thoughts.

To those of you who have done second looks, what should I expect on the day when I go back? Do you shadow a resident or spend time with a particular attending? And what do I expect in the OR....do they let you do stuff or just watch, any pimping?? I have a second look next week and have no idea what to expect.
