I keep reading how Dec.1 acceptances marks the end of the first round where the top of the applicant pool gets invited, interviewed, and accepted and that starting with the end of Dec/or early Jan (is this the right time?) the SECOND ROUND starts.

How does the second round work? Do adcoms wait til they get withdrawal notices and then invite those applicants like me that have not even interviewed yet to interview? Or do they just automatically start accepting people that they have already interviewed but were not as stellar enough to accept in the first batch a few days ago?

Basically if I haven’t even had an interview yet am I compared to the people that are more than likely have my stats and have not been interviewed yet either or those with higher ones that have been interviewed but just not accepted?:scared:

I know it doesn’t matter who we’re compared to as long as we get in. I guess I’m just trying to keep my hopes up and trying to find more comforting answers.

Haha I totally have the same questions as you and I'm in the same boat! No rejections but no interviews either. I submitted May 30th but took my DAT in late Sept, so I'm thinking that may have held up the process a bit. I'm just frustrated that I don't know if I need to study for the DAT again or not! I guess i'll give it a few weeks and see if I hear anything else.

Anyone get an NYU rejection yet? I haven't heard a thing from them...

same questions! i hope someone knows the answers. i'm under review at NYU when i called them a few weeks ago. i haven't really heard from them either.

Good question!

Since all of the best applicants will be accepting a spot somewhere... Do the "second tier" (no offense!) students now compete with people in our "own group" with similar stats?

i'm glad to hear i'm not the only one! does anyone know the answer though?

It obviously depends on the school. I would say most schools are going to accept people that they've already interviewed and liked before they start interviewing new people. But maybe some schools accepted all the people they wanted to accept from the first group. I know people that got invited to interviews in the spring but then got rejected 'cause all the seats were full. In conclusion, I think most schools don't look very kindly on people who haven't even interviewed yet because they run the chance of accepting too many people the first round so they never know how many seats will be left.

From what i understand, schools will re-evaluate their situation around Jan 15th (the deadline for deposits for Dec 1st acceptances). Many people have multiple acceptances and will only put down one deposit. At this point, schools will sort out the number of seats still available and proceed to the next round of acceptances (while continuing interviews).

So we'll have to wait until Jan 15th or so for more updates.

Good Luck everyone! keep your spirits up!

That's true. Applicants that haven't been accepted are probably going to have to wait until after Jan 15th before they hear anything solid. Like the above poster stated, schools will sort things out as students send in their deposits. The sooner people decide which school they are going to attend, the sooner second rounders/waitlisters may recieve that elusive acceptance letter. However, I'm sure most will have to wait until after Jan 15th.

At both of my interviews the dean of admissions said that the second round selection process will be a bit more competitive. The reason why is because schools usually get about 1000 more late applicants (those who submitted their aadsas in Sept-Oct-Nov). Now, the late applicants and the thousands they have yet to interview must compete for the last open seats. They said that they will be very selective as to who will get the last avaliable spots.

As far as only competing against individuals with similar stats isn't 100% true. You better believe that there are going to be some academic super stars that applied late that you'll have to worry about. Let's just hope that you guys interviews before their beefy applications make it through aadsas. (Friend of mine scored 21 on DAT/applied in late Nov/accepted Fall 07')

However, there are at least four more months of interviewing to do. I also know many people that interviewed in Feb and got in. Matter of fact one friend of mine got into NYU last June. So, anything can still happen.

thanks for the responses you guys! But goodness I wasn't even thinking about the late superstar applicants. Arg noooo! more reason to worry for those of us who have not been in an interview yet.

The worst part is why stats aren't even that low, they're not perfect, but still I keep holding my breath something will pop up in my email or in the real mail. I know plenty of people get in late but I keep hearing how some schools stop interviwing in march or early spring and how they already have interviews lined up well into a month before their last interview dates!

OH MAN! really trying hard to stay positive here. Anyone else who hasn't been on an interview yet but doesn't have a big red flag in their file and is worried still? Are you guys just waiting for an interview invite? isn't there something more we can do other than send updates? any suggestions?

we are in exactly same situation.....I dont think there is anything that i can do besides just focus on my finals right now and check mails everyday!! i try not to worry about it but once in a while when i hear my classmates got into this dental school whtever...i just feel like shooting myself 🙁

I think some schools do rolling admission so if you have a post dec. 1st interview there you can be accepted any time after that.

that's good to hear! do you know which schoools? I wonder what they do with the people they already interviewd but didn't accept yet then? if its rolling does that mean they're less like to keep you "on hold" or on continuing review?
