I am taking preview today but having some second thoughts as only 2 schools I am applying to even recommend this exam. I am worried that if I do bad, it basically adds an additional thing to my application that looks poor for me. However, I’m less than 24 hours away and I’m also worried that if I don’t take it, it will be reported as voided or something like that.

If every school receives my preview, and they are not one that recommends or requires it, could this negatively impact my app if I do bad on it?

Voids will be counted against your four lifetime PREview attempts.

We have been told only schools that will require/recommend PREview will receive your scores in real-time (AMCAS guide, according to @wysdoc). We are told that the 37+ schools wanting PREview data for research will not receive those scores until later (likely end-of-cycle).

Our survey results show that since PREview is in such an early stage, it is not clear that low scores will screen you out as one would expect of SJTs. This could change but we need member participation when the next survey comes out.

If you have schools that require the exam, take it. It is your decision to take the exam if your schools "recommend" it.

Thank you for linking to the HPSA survey. In the employment context, SJTs have been in use in various forms for 25+ years in the private and public sectors, with varying degrees of reported success (from the employer's perspective, anyway). Very interesting to see medical schools venturing into this realm, about which I am ambivalent in light of the clunky road these kinds of tests have taken in the employment sector.
