Hi! I am a second time applicant.
I graduated this spring with a B.S. in Biology and a minor in Spanish, overall gpa 3.69 so about average. Last 45 was around a 3.8, and science (i think) was a 3.6 but I may have left some classes out of that calculation I wasnt sure about...
I have been a GP veterinary assistant for about 2 years during school and on breaks, totaling around 3000 hours working with 5 different vets(including one that works with exotics/holistic medicine). I also have a remote internship in veterinary research that I am doing a project for that is wrapping up at the end of the month. I also bartend/serve as a second job, started an animal welfare club at my undergrad school, and have volunteered the past few years with a retired horses farm(145 hours), and a local rescue for vetting intakes (just started this summer so only about 50 hours).
I did study abroad for a month in a spanish speaking country as a junior for an animal behavior course and throughout college started my own dog walking/pet sitting business to do as a side job while in school in a big city.
My LORs are from 2 veterinarians, one of which who is the holistic/exotics veterinarian, the other who sees traditional GP, the supervisor for my internship and my academic advisor over my 4 years at my undergrad.
I am torn because I love community medicine/ am super passionate about expanding veterinary care access, but also would love to specialize if given the chance, particularly I am interested in orthopedic surgery. These are pretty hard to combine as which to approach a theme of for my application, so looking for any advice from former applicants on what they feel would be best to highlight. If anyone is willing to read some of my essays /personal statement that would also be super helpful! I was also on the Dean's list each semester.
I am planning on applying to Minnesota (IS), Iowa State, Illinois, LSU, and Virginia Tech, but might have to cut one out financially.
