Hello all.

It's secondary season and I'm chugging away at my secondaries.

As I go through my secondaries, I reuse most of the content from my previous secondaries. I like what I wrote in my secondaries, and the content demonstrates my strengths and shows off my passions. I know I should try to change as much as possible because I didn't get interviews at these schools, so why should I expect an interview with similar writing? However, I truly don't think my secondary content killed my application last cycle (I think it was primary writing, MCAT, and school list). Any advice for me in the future?

Reusing secondaries depends on the program. Some look at all writing holistically, and some will not like reused essays (you could make some modifications for longer essays?). There are schools with smaller pools that will read every application regardless of GPA/MCAT, and they may keep your old application of anyone wants to compare (for a period of time). You don't know which schools since they don't reveal that part of their process if they don't want to. That's why rewriting is your safest approach.

Don’t fall in love with your own prose, especially since it didn’t get you where you wanted to be last cycle.

Maybe just make some small changes, highlighting some potential new activities since you last submitted Only you know if your writing is good. If you think the secondaries are good then they’re probably good. 509->517 is what will make all the difference for you.
Good luck!

I know that's the challenge. I broke up with my primary writing (like all but two got thrown in the gutter and rewritten; yeah, that's how bad I think it was. Too many stories diluted my skills and experiences.) Perhaps I need to be a harsher critic of my secondaries.

Thanks! I haven't started any new major activities recently (I started many early last year before the application cycle), so I'm writing about my continued dedication to the ones that were newer to me last cycle. I hope a 517 makes all the difference :D but I know there is more to this process than numbers.
