Some schools allow you to either type or hand-print their secondary application.

Still, others insist that you type your responses into the spaces provided.

The kinder schools provide PDF documents that allow you to word process directly onto the application and print a copy.

One school in particular, however, (cough, cough, Drrrrmmth, cough) supplies a PDF document that does NOT allow you to word process directly onto the application.

My question: have any of you completed or have ideas on completing this application without using a typewriter.

Ideas appreciated.

I saw a photograph of one in my grandfather's high school year book.

My dad has a typewriter at his office right next to the laser jet and the xerox.....

if you know of anyone that has adobe acrobat 5.0 on their computer, that is the best way to write text into a pdf document. the software itself costs hundreds of dollars to buy so you probably wouldn't want to go that route.

if you are desperate enough, there is a software program called "PDFtypewriter" that lets you type text into pdf files, save and print. it's alot cheaper than buying acrobat but it still costs about 65 bucks. i dunno, consider it part of your secondary fee or something..

For a really long and slow way to type text into a non-editable PDF, try Photoshop or even MS Paint. Just export the PDF as a JPEG or at worst do a screenshot and save that as JPEG and then use the text tool to add text to it.

Yes, this will take forever. Oh well.

This won't help with all of the others that require a typewriter, but Dartmouth allows you to complete the application online. I think they give the web address on the application you received.

I don't know if you can do this with a pdf, but:

I scanned in a paper application to my computer, then used that image as a background in MS word.

Then I typed the app out, erased the background and printed it. It takes a while to play with the line spacing, but worked well for me.

What's up with the spanking, Goofyone 😉

YES! I missed that line. The first time I looked over the mailed instructions, I thought that the url was only for MD/PhD applicants.

Brad, lots of thanks! This certainly makes life easier.

I happen to have Acrobat 5.0, so I scanned my Drexel app in hi-res, edited the pdf, and printed it out in the highest quality possible on heavy-stock paper. I don't think the adcom minds that I didn't use the original application paper, since I got an interview offer from them yesterday.

I'm sure you can dowload a shareware demo of Acrobat somewhere...that can work in a pinch. Correct me if I'm wrong! Or just check out the "free pdf editor" thread...

If the spaces seem unreasonably small for the space allotted, is it okay to type on MS Word, puast it one, then scan/xerox for a cleaner look?
