I sent my application in this week to 10 D.O. schools. I wish I were more excited, but I am afraid my April MCAT will be poor. (based on my practice tests, probably a 20 or 21). My gpa is a 3.6 science and I have all A's after returning to school with a 10 year absence ( I am 35 and realized my passion later in life!) I have shadowed with 5 different doctors and have a family and varied life experiences, I have also been a hospice volunteer for 2 years, so I hope these things will make up for my poor ability to take the mcat.
Will I even get a secondary if I do not reach some MCAT minimum, whatever that is?! I do plan on taking the August MCAT, but I don't know that I'll score much better. It is so frustrating to work so hard on grades and volunteering, etc, and taking care of my family (w/3 kids) and be defeated by that terrible test!!
Any kind souls out there that can give me some uplifting info, like whether or not I might see a secondary!
sorry to whine, but.... I am looking to my peers for some comfort!

There are a lot of schools that would rather non-traditional students and will look harder at your previous career as an indicator of your work ethic than an MCAT score. I know of several people who are graduating this weekend at PCOM that have MCATs in your range yet they did well on boards and have been very successful student. Depending on what you have been doing the past 10 years I would emphasize that on my PS and during the interview. The adcoms that I know will probably rely heavier on your GPA as an indicator of your academic track record than the MCAT. I am a non-trad student too and wish you the best of luck in your career change.
