do people write secondaries earlier hoping that they would be screened in??

what if you write them and get screened out? doesn't that really suck :*(

Don't bother. It won't save that much time.

Ya but think about it. Privates send 100% secondaries, and most publics at least the UCs (except for UCSF) send secondaries almost entirely off (if not all off of) GPA and MCAT so you can kind of predict if you are going to receive one or not.

what does this mean? I'm not too informed...do you mean that all private med schools send secondaries to all applicants?

This is terrible advice and completely wrong. I applied to over 40 schools and pre-wrote every secondary. I would say only 5-6 schools changed secondaries.

I was able to be complete at schools within a day or two max of them giving me their secondary.

As a result, I received over 20 allopathic interviews.

I would hardly say "it won't save that much time."

In my experience, every private med school will send you secondaries. Public schools will also almost always give you their secondaries.

If you have time, pre-write secondaries from last year or at least start brainstorming and jot down ideas for the prompts. It'll save you a LOT of time. 🙂

Sheesh, how long does it take you guys to write a 1500 character essay?

I can see if you are applying to 40+ schools, that they might pile up. For me (20 schools), I simply wrote them as the came, and had same-day turn arounds, for 8 interviews.

To each his own.

+1 for brainstorming, notes.

👍

Know which of the schools you're applying to have automatic secondaries and get them done early. Didn't check if you were in Cali but yea, UC's screen.
