I know very little about secondary applications. Could you guys please teach me about them? What do they consist of? When can you fill them out? Does the school send me secondary apps only after they recieve my primary app from VMCAS or can i fill out a secondary app before they get my primary? Any extra info? Thanks! 😀

I just replied in Applying Early thread 😉

Some schools will "invite" you to fill out the supplemental once they have accepted your VMCAS (Ohio, Wisconsin, PEI I think - and I;'m sure others I did not apply to). Other schools have supplemental apps online already and you just have to submit them anytime before Oct 1 (some are online, some are by mail). The AAVMC website and the book that they publish each year are great resources for this information. Here is the link to supplemental apps from the AAVMC website:

The only annoying thing about the supplemental apps is, like what was said above, the extra essays AND the extra fees. Boo fees.

The link above will be your saving grace when it comes time to choose which schools you want to apply to, especially in regards to how many supplemental applications you can actually afford to send in, but here's a quick overview.

A vast majority of vet schools will require you to fill out a supplemental application, but some simply want some very simple information and a check, and others want essays and updates about your experiences and jobs you gained after submitting the VMCAS application and a check. It varies pretty widely. I know that Mizzou had a VERY long supplemental with a lot of repeat questions from the VMCAS and 4 essays on top of it, whereas UF just wanted a single essay about how I could add diversity to the campus, Illinois wanted an essay based on a hypothetical situation regarding financial help to vet students and increasing the number of veterinary graduates, Auburn wanted to know why I applied to their vet school, and Wisconsin wanted to know what diversity I would add to the campus, as well as some extra information on residency status that was a pain to fill out. It's going to vary for each school, but expect to write some extra essays and spend some extra money.
