Most of the secondary applications ask the question, why do you want to be an osteopathic physician? Are they asking the applicants to differentiate why they want to be osteopathic physicians specifically, rather than just ?generic? physicians? Is it important to state why osteopathic medicine is important to the applicant over allopathic medicine? I am applying exclusively to osteopathic programs, so the differentiation doesn?t seem relevant.

Why do you want to be an *osteopathic* physician?
=========================================
They know you want to go into medicine; they know you want to be a doc. Why osteopathy? Don't go slamming allopathy; just tell them what it is inside you that tells you that osteopathy is right for you.

Doesn't matter what specialty you (think you) want to go into eventually. I don't even think the interviewers -want- the interviewees to have a hard-core specialization picked out at this point. You just have to convey to them the "why's" of your decision to choose osteopathy.

It is a loaded question that really asks two questions:
First: Why medicine?
Second: Why Osteopathic?
Answer both!

Do you think it was ok writing a paragraph about my doctor who is a DO for the secondaries?

Tej,

As long as you used this paragraph about someone else as a vehicle to support or introduce why "you" yourself want to be an Osteo Doc. Simply descibing another physician wouldn't cut it...at least in my opinion?

They want the secondary to put character to the numbers you sent on the primary. Tell them all about you. Tell them about your character, interests, and desires. They want into your head to see what makes you tick. Invite them in.........
