Do you just write the check, stick it in an addressed envelope and mail it out without any other note or forms for the schools that just say send a check?

yessir, the checks are opened and deposited by the secretaries and if they ask for the check all they need is the check. Make sure you contact them a week later to see if they received it.

It's a good idea to write your AADSAS ID on the cheque too. Also, some schools require money orders - you'll have to check school websites to figure out which ones (or email to ask if they accept personal cheques).

I was just wondering this myself. I guess I will save the effort and paper and just send the check.

Last cycle, I sent all mine with a short little note that included my name, address, AADSAS ID, SS#, contact info in case there was a problem, etc...
