Do certain schools have a preference for the secondary photo between a headshot or more serious passport style?

In the first photo, one shoulder is in front of the other, whereas in the second photo both shoulders are parallel. I saw that UCF requests "Passport-style (head & upper shoulders) Photograph (Optional, but highly desired.)" but other schools don't specify this. Do you think the first style (shoulders not parallel, headshot style) would be acceptable as opposed to the passport style (shoulders parallel) photo?

There is nothing "unprofessional" about the first picture. When hospitals/medical centers display a physicians photo with their practice profile, its seldom a mugshot/passport style. I say you can't go wrong with either, if it specifies passport style then go with the bottom picture. If it doesn't specify and its now a judgement call for you to make, you will probably not do any harm going with something amenable to the top picture - may even convey a sense of warmth, openness and approachability and personality along with your application.

Best of luck!

In the first photo, the smile and "tilt" are fine. The low V neck and sweater are questionable.
In the second, the eyeliner is stark. A jacket and a smile would have improved it.

wow do you guys actually analyze the photos this much lol
