Hey guys,

Just a quick q's, do dental schools have the so-called "secondaries" where they send you more essays to write?
I called up some schools like UOP and USC, and they said they have no secondaries, where as UCSF/UCLA has???

How about schools like Arizona, Columbia, Upenn, BU, Temple, NYU and UPitts???

Thanks

Mary

Hey Mary,

I know that NYU and Arizona have secondaries. I filled out my NYU secondary at the interview. It was no big deal and took me not even five minutes to complete.

The Arizona one was sent in the mail prior to the interview and was a little time consuming. However, it wasn't bad. One of the questions was something like: Have you ever worked on an indian reservation?

I don't remember if I had a secondary for BU. Hope that helps.

The secondaries actually don't really have any difficult questions; they're usually short essay questions. Typical questions are, "why dentistry, how do you see yourself in 10/20 years, etc." The only secondary that I know of that you absolutely should spend a lot of time on is the UCSF secondary. It's like 12 essay questions (some pretty easy, others you'd have to really think about) plus 2 others about your socioeconomic status.

USC does have a secondary, but you fill it out when you get your interview, and it's just basic questions about working in a group setting. The UCLA one is pretty long also (in pages), but it's not as bad as the UCSF one and the questions they ask aren't too difficult. Temple sorta has a secondary, but it's really short (like one page). BU doesn't have a secondary.

Hope that helps! Basically don't worry too much about them.....except the UCSF one....hehe.

UCLA has the most tedious secondary, then UCSF.
UPENN also has a simple secondary. All of those are to be sent to the school after they notify you that they want your secondary.

But all can be done in advanced, because you'll be overwhelmed with how much papers you have to write, fill in, send out, etc...

NOVA, Marquette also have secondary.
