If it's something you've overcome go for it. None of us have the exact same situations. If this is the struggle that's had the most impact on your life, you'd be foolish not to write about it IMO. Just don't make it sound cliche, then it won't be. 👍
 
I think that the reason for the question is to gauge the coping skills you've used to overcome difficulties. Ideally, you have adult coping skills that you've used in the past couple of years. If you learned those skills as a little kid, maybe you could discuss how you've learned the skills you learned as a kid to cope with difficulties in the past couple years (assuming you are a traditional college student/applicant).

I also used a pre-mature birth topic. I related it to my motor skills dysfunction that I have overcome step by step, especially in recent years using dance. I related my accomplishments in that area to a variety of topics that seemed to go over well. I agree with LizzyM, definitely relate it to a recent thing if you can.
