I’m 34 with a wife and 2 kids. My mom, sister, and other people that would be a support system live a few miles from my top choice school. Would it be wise to write about the support I would have and how it would help me be successful for the why us essay? I am concerned it will be viewed as too much of a personal motivation and not highlight why I fit with the school (mission etc.)

Mention that, but talk about more. I usually tried to highlight 2-3 things. One of those 2-3 things could be having familial support. Use the rest of the prompt to talk about research, volunteering, mission, curriculum, etc. Whatever sticks out to you and you provide experience or fit.

Talk about both. The only school where I hid my personal connection to the area, is the only school I interviewed at that I didn't get in. They want to interview people who are likely to go there!
