I am a second-year who was accepted by a physician to do a 1 month research rotation over my winter break at another institution. It took a couple emails to get the secretary to send me the forms for the rotation. I sent them back promptly and received notice of the receipt.

Now its been about a month and I've been inquiring whether the rotation has been approved (by the electives director) and whether there are additional forms that need to be completed. I've emailed 3 times now and feel my messages are just being ignored for some reason. I have no idea what the problem is. After the last email I contacted the physician again and she replied with a CC to the secretaries to help me with the paperwork and still nothing. Is there anything I can do or am I going to get screwed out of this rotation?

Call the secretary and explain that this is time sensitive and you are sorry for bothering him or her. And keep the physician in the loop.

I would have done that sooner, but the problem is I am not fluent in the language of the institution. I am able to write, but I think I'd have troubles trying to carry a conversation with the secretary over the phone.

Call from the translator phone at on of the hospitals you rotate at 😉
