Is there a Math section on MCAT? Could someone please let me know the sections that are tested on the MCAT. The reason I'm asking is, I have a Math I, II, III, IV from my bachelors degree(from India and am currently running it by the Intl dept at the Univ to see if I can get credits for it) and I'm trying to see if I can skip Math as part of my pre req's. Since I have done the above Math almost 8 yrs ago, I dont remember much of it. If there is a Math section on MCAT then I better do it anyway now to refresh my memory otherwise I want to skip... so can someone please let me know the sections on MCAT and duration for each section. thank you in advance. Here is what I found on kaptest site.
  • Physical Sciences - 45 questions, 60 minutes (actual exam - 52 questions, 70 minutes)
  • Verbal Reasoning - 45 questions, 50 minutes (actual exam - 40 questions, 60 minutes)
  • Biological Sciences - 45 questions, 60 minutes (actual exam - 52 questions, 70 minutes)

I am going to completely neglect the obvious error of your question. Math is important, period. Every third grader complains "why do I need to know this" Every high schooler thinks they can have a calculator so why worry about trig, or algebra, geometry, etc. etc. Suffice it to say, on the MCAT-no calculator and if you can't do most of the calcs in your head (not taking time cram long math on the margins of the MCAT) then you will never finish the questions. i.e. that 70 minute test covers 40 questions if you are lucky and your score is a 7)

Instead, I am going to probe into your question. Any class from India must be assumed to carry no weight/value for amercian M.D. applications. Look at the MSAR in your library-some schools require more than the simple Org/Bio/Chem/Phys pre-reqs (math can be one, biochemistry, A&P are others). If a school you are potentially interested in requires something you did in India-redo it here.

You should also be prepared to re-take all of your pre-requisites in the US or Canada. No credit is given by admissions committees to international degrees, or classes from international universities.
