Hi, I wanted to get other peoples opinions about my stats for applying to PT school. I am a bit concerned because most of my pre-req grades aren't that great. I am currently taking Biology 1 and its looking to be either a B or a P/F option (up to me). I have yet to take Chemistry 1/2 and Physics 1/2, the GRE, or complete any observation hours due to the whole corona pandemic. I played Division 1 volleyball with a full ride scholarship all 4 years of college, which I think might help set me apart a bit. I wanted to try applying this round, so I would take classes this summer as well as the GRE. I've listed my stats below and would love to hear feedback, thanks!

-Anatomy- B
-Physiology- B
-Exercise Physiology- A
-Biomechanics- A
-Medical Terminology- A
-Stats- C
-Psych- B

-2x Sun Belt All-Conference First Team
-2x Sun Belt Conference Commissioner's List
-3x Sun Belt Conference Offensive Player of the Week
-2x University Dean's List
-Conference USA All-Conference First Team
- AVCA South Region Honorable Mention
-Conference USA All-Conference Second Team
- Conference USA All-Freshman Team
- Conference USA Freshman of the Week

-I also have various volunteer experiences that are unrelated to PT

- I don't know how schools are handling the P/F options due to the virus but I would find out before opting for the P.
- I would try to kill chem & physics to pull your science GPA up, since ex phys & biomech won't count toward it and your bio grade won't be improving it. Start those classes aggressively, get tutors, whatever, prior to bombing an exam and realizing you may end up with only a B or whatever.
- You didn't list your CGPA but depending on what that looks like, retaking stats (and any other low grades) might be helpful

I would look to see if the schools you plan on applying to have minimum grades for any prerequisites, I know most of my school required nothing lower than a B- on those courses.

I would take the GRE before deciding if you’re going to apply this cycle. It’s good that you plan to take some of those classes you need this summer, but studying for the GRE will also be needed and most schools have minimum scores for that too.

How diverse are your pt experiences? Were you able to shadow in multiple settings? I know some schools require a certain amount of hours and others don’t so make sure you look out for that.

If you think you can get good grades this summer on those classes and get a decent GRE score, I would say apply. If not, I would take time to work on prerequisite grades, your GRE, and adding in pt experiences. Good luck!

Thank you for this advice, I appreciate it. I am beginning to think it would be more beneficial for me to apply the next cycle that way I can get a good GRE score, hopefully better prereq grades, and more observation experience and not be so rushed. Thanks again!

I messaged you sharing my stats and where I applied/got in for reference. Starting in May.

You have not completed enough pre-reques yet for us to be able to evaluate your chances. We would need to know your overall GPA and pre-reques GPA at least. Based on information you listed, you meet the minimum requirements for PT schools, but this information is not complete at this point. So when you can estimate your GPAs, check with school and see what is thier students' average GPA and pre-reqs GPAs this will help you to determine which schools are competitive enough for you.
For observation hours, do at least 2 different settings (inpatient (hospital or SNF, acute rehab), outpatient, Assisted living facility, adult day healthcare centers... Do not waste your time to complete much more hours than schools require; for example, if they require 150h, don't do more than 200.
I would leave grade B for Bio1. B is not bad. Just try to get as many As as you can from now on. (But don't be harsh on yourself if you get a B again. Just try to get as many As as you can.)
Good luck!
