I am a MS4 at LSUMC Shrevport, and in talking to one of our faculty today, I learned that LSUMC NO refused any help that we offered concerning placing MS3 and MS4 students around our campus. Instead, they said, you know, thanks, but we really don't need your help. RRRight, your main teaching hospital has been condemned, you have no way of accomodating all 350 of these students elsewhere, but we'll pass on the help from our sister campus in Shreveport. I was wondering where LSUMC-NO gets off? What is it about that campus that is so self-righteous? Good luck with your residency programs in the years ahead. But, hey, you don't need our help.

What exactly was the nature of the refusal? How do you know there wasn't anything legitimate behind it? You seem to be accusing an entire university of being self-righteous. How is that even possible? If the Dean of NO literally said "thanks anyway, but we're better than you" to the Dean of Shrevport campus, then I'd understand why you're upset. What exactly did this faculty member tell you, and from whom did he hear it?

Well, in order to answer the why in full goes beyond my scope. The faculty was a senior faculty. I'm sure there were demands of more money and NO faculty assistance, obviously, to accomidate more students. There are 3 medical schools in this small state, 1 private and 2 public. NO and Shreveport vie for funding from the state government and NO substantially receives more than Shreveport. True, NO classes are almost twice as large as Shreveport, however, the root of the problem lies deeper in N. LA getting much less respect than S. LA, as well as less tax dollars. NO has (had) the prestige that comes from being NO, therefore, many carry on as if S'port is valued less. Along with this prestige, it seems as if there has always been an arrogance, for lack of a better term, among their program. Even on my NO interview, one of the noted criteria of entrance was "being fit for LSU-NO," which can be taken ambiguously. I'm tired, but if I think of anything else to explain, I'll try later.
