I do from time to time. It's worked out for me. I think the "sign-on" is like 400 bucks as an aggregate over like 6 sessions but typically its like a little less than 300 over 8 sessions (like 70 bucks a week/2 sessions per week). It's enough for spending money on the weekends.

I like how other specialty forums advise budgeting, loan refinancing and loan forgiveness but you get to the EM forums and its SELL YOUR BLOOD.

is it actually $300 a month though because I'm kind of broke

You can't legally sell blood, which is ****ing annoying.
Here I am with Type O-, and I am guilted into giving it every 8-16 weeks.
And then the Red Cross turns around and ****ing sells it. I'm not allowed to make money off of it, but they are. I get gatorade, a cookie, and a t shirt.

I got a couple a beers in me, and this post is still making me laugh. I wish I could like it twice!

O+ brings me a net income of a fancy collectible mug, some OJ and venous wall scarring. O- pays better, I think.

I get offers to be a medical director for $125/hr, probably a better deal than that.

Depends on the conditions. If it’s 125/ hr, and covers all the hours I work, not just business hours, kinda how lawyers charge, along with no direct patient care or malpractice risk.... might be a good offer....

For those too young to remember, this ended when HIV and HCV got into the IV drug population and the addicts were selling blood for money to buy drugs to inject from which they'd contract HIV and HCV, then sell it back to the Red Cross which then contaminated the blood supply. Remember that kid Ryan White that died from it, and how a bunch of those early AIDS cases came from routine blood transfusions before there was even a good test to detect it?

The policy is still in place, but before that, you could literally sell your blood. Pre-1984 you could sell an organ. More than a few broke pre-meds found out very quickly this was not a sustainable get-rich-quick scheme.

You'll be exhausted. Bad idea.

It returns your RBCs, I never noticed any fatigue and I could even exercise later in the day. I did it for two years, averaged $80/week for two visits. It was on the way home from school so I figured why not. The worst part about it was dealing with all the homeless people in the clinic.

Good on you guys.
I was more tired than a senior after a heated game of mah jong.

If you are under 30 you can also sell your sperm......
Guys think they'll do it, and, then, someone tries, and they find out that they're not qualified. It's actually pretty stringent on whose junk they want. Also, a person might get paid, literally, $1 for their sample.

Only BAFERDs are extreme enough to both be a physician and sell their own blood.

I did it a few times but had a bad ache in my arm after the last visit and stopped.

Had friends in college who did it. Got paid $75 a shot and this was 20 years ago.

homeless people hustle...
True.

I had a boyfriend girlfriend pair some time ago who came to Vegas and partied away all their money. Somehow they got themselves to the plasma place and "donated" making enough for a ticket home. The girl faked a syncopal so they could ride the cabulance to the ED. From here they got bus passes to get to the Greyhound station and off they went. Pretty crafty actually.

I really thought we were going a while different direction with the start of that paragraph, but blood donation works too and is less likely to violate TOS
