Do we only send our DAT scores to AADSAS? Or do we also have to send the scores to each school individually?

Also, is it recommended to send the DAT scores in before AADSAS opens on June 3rd?

So, in addition to sending DAT scores directly to schools, is it necessary to send DAT scores to AADSAS also?

You only need to send/release scores to each school you are interested in via ADA.

You do not need to send DAT score reports to AADSAS.

You must request DAT scores to the schools you are interested in through ADA.

Dat scores are now reported directly to AADSAS by the ADA. There is no longer a need to send individual schools your score report because AADSAS will report your official scores to the schools you designate. Check the AADSAS website for more details.

From ADEA:

"DAT Scores Imported Directly into ADEA AADSAS Application

Starting with the 2011 ADEA AADSAS application, applicants no longer self-report DAT scores in the application. ADEA AADSAS will obtain your official DAT scores directly from the American Dental Association’s Testing Services Center and will import them directly into your application. If you take the DAT after your ADEA AADSAS application has been sent to your designated dental schools, an updated application, reflecting your DAT scores will be forwarded to schools just as soon as the scores are received."

You still must send score reports to each school you are interested in!

I'm really confused about this as well.

Before this change, you had to mark each individual schools you wanted to have the scores sent to when you registered for the DAT, correct? And you had to pay for it as well depending on how many schools you selected.

But now, we don't do that because we use our dentpin, and the scores are just uploaded automatically to AADSAS and sent to the schools we've marked on our AADSAS application, right? Is there still a seperate fee for that? And I'm assuming there will still an option to have the scores sent to the few schools that do not use AADSAS.

Also, is there no longer a place on the application to mark that you're re-taking the DAT?? When I read the instructions, it sounded like there wouldn't even be a section for the American DAT on the application since it was all done automatically. But how do we notify schools that we're re-taking it and that they shouldn't make interview/rejection decisions based on the old scores?

All the change with the DENTPIN entails is an electronic importation of your scores into your AADSAS application. Before, the applicant would have to manually type the scores in the their AADSAS application.

It is nowhere stated (that I could find) that AADSAS sends out an official score report. You still must pay $25 a school to have your scores officially released.

So on June 3rd, what do we do?

Go to ADA and submit it directly to AADSAS? How much will that cost? Do we still have to pay on a 'per-school' basis? This is confusing 😕

I am under the impression that the score report is sent to 5 schools without charge, then each one after that is an additional $25.

So if AADSAS sends the updated application with the DAT score, then there shouldn't still be another need to send these scores again if they have already been designated while signing up for the DAT, right?

correct me if i am wrong

but june 3rd, i believe you type in your DENTPIN to submit your scores on your app

then go to ada.org and send your scores to the schools that you have not designated (during the time you took your DAT)

and it will be 25 dollars per each school

i called aadsas
and the cs dept people told me.
that the scores are automatically downloaded off ADA website and you dont need to send your score to each school. Aadsas will take care of that.

Wow, this is news to me!

So I can apply to any school I want via AADSAS without having to release my scores to the school by paying the $25 fee?

😱😱😱😱😱

you know where you got this info. From aadsas faq right.
Read the whole faq.(freq. ans. q.)
they say its unlikely that schools will request you for your official score report.

Thanks for bringing this news to our attention peanutb!

Would you mind providing the link to the entire FAQ page?

Okay so can someone tell me what I need to do on June 3rd? I took the DAT last year and submitted them to 5 schools for free.

Come June 3rd, what do I do? Please tell me. I have no idea.

If this is true I'm going to be upset. I signed up for the DAT about a month or so ago and paid the extra $25 to have my scores sent to 14 schools! I'm guessing there won't be a chance for a refund...

For anyone interested:

I contacted some of the schools I am applying to about this. So far, one has responded. I will update if more get back to me.

Baylor College of Dentistry: Yes, still send scores directly.

I'm sending my scores just in case I guess.

I hope I'm not throwing away $225. 🙁 👎

CALL THE AADSAS people they beg to defer.

Okay so come June 3rd, WHAT DO WE DO????

Go to ADA.org, enter DENTPIN, ands submit the scores from our first attempt??? What about if you're retaking? I'm SO CONFUSED

Call the AADSAS people.... thats what i mean. They said after the 5 free schools we dont have to pay this year. And they will send a official DAT score report along with our application. Guys call them... after bconway52 said that he/she called schools. I started calling schools around 3 pm today. and ALL THE SCHOOLS i called were CLUELESS about this. they were not updated. So i called AADSAS to see what is going on and why aren't the schools updated. The lady took down the list of the schools that i called so that her superior/manager can update the schools again.

pac you can still send the score though ADA.org you dont have to wait till june 3. but what we are trying to figure out is that it has changed this year. And aadsas has told me that we dont have to send our scores though ADA and that aadsas will take care of it automatically. Yet schools are clueless to this fact. At the front desk people. so the decision is up to you bro.

Ugh.....this is so confusing. This is even HARDER considering I'm RETAKING the DAT....but I still wanna send it in my first attempt scores. How do I do this on June 3rd??

Called the AADSAS today.

there is no fee to send official DAT scores through AADSAS (no increase in the application fee either), but for those who have already submitted more than 5 schools (which were free), it is your responsibility to contact ADA regarding the refund (not sure if it's possible).

They said that once the score is received from ADA (this i'm not sure how long it takes from the day of your exam.. possibily ~2 weeks i'm guessing?), it will take 24-48 hrs to post on your AADSAS account and every week they mail out any updates they have on the applicants. hope this helps!

I wonder then about people submitting application prior to taking DAT.

NVM just read AADSAS website about sending out updated application.

UFralo
just go read the FAQ... the link is in this thread....

You enter your DENTPIN on your AADSAS app, and it'll automatically upload your scores from your 1st attempt. We're trying to determine if that DENTPIN upload is enough, or if we still need to send them separately. Apparently there seems to be some conflicting reports from AADSAS and individual schools.

I think if you've registered to re-take it at a future date, then that will also be uploaded when you enter your DENTPIN. There won't be any scores listed until you actually take it, but I think schools will be able to see that a re-take is planned at whatever MM/DD/YYYY date you picked. I haven't called AADSAS to confirm that, though. As soon as you take your 2nd exam, it'll automatically update and forward your app to schools.

What's DENTPIN????
I took DAT last yr and im going to sent those scores in. Will i get a DENTPIN??

here...

since AADSAS is going to automatically pull your official scores from ADA, its saying that most likely schools will NOT require you to have to send them the official scores as well

Go here to either retrieve yours or register for one. If you've already taken the DAT, you should have been assigned one. You just enter in your name, SSN, some other basic info, and it'll tell you what your DENTPIN is.

Correct me if I'm wrong. So we don't have to send the scores directly to the school but we still need to pay $25 for each school just so they can access our scores from ada?

From what I have learned, you do not need to pay 25 bucks, which is the fee when you send scores directly to the school
The schools will receive your scores automatically when you enter your DENTPIN

That's what I thought. But when I called today, the guy said we still need to pay the 25 bucks for each. I don't know why.

you guys, you get the first 5 schools to send your scores to for free, each additional is another $25. havent you guys read the FAQ and the instructions? let alone registered for the DAT? you would know this if you did

We know that. But due to changes this year, people have been talking about how we don't need to pay that anymore since we no longer put in the DAT scores in the application. If you have read above, they mentioned to call the ada for a refund.

My impression is that we DON'T need to submit the DAT scores...once they're uploaded via DENTPIN, that's all we're going to need to do.

I may be wrong, but I don't think I am.

This includes PAST DAT exams and future ones you hope to take months from now
