What are the rules about sending in deposits to more than one school?

How long can I continue to have my deposits at both schools?

Can I pursue Financial Aid apps, etc. at both while I wait?

Some context: I really want to go to School A, but they have no scholarships to offer. School B is okay but has the possibility of giving me a fair amount of money (but I don't find out about it until April or so).

You can send deposits in to any/all schools you want to hold your spot. Be careful because usually you DO NOT get your deposit back. Although you should try and make a decision as soon as possible so that you can notify the school that you will not be attending so they can offer your seat to another anxious applicant waiting to hear back from schools.

I put down 4 deposits when I applied and there is definitely no rule against it. My main "problem" was that my acceptances were pretty spread out (September, end of October, middle December, January, February, and march). The schools I was more serious about were the ones that interviewed in late January/February, so when I got into my safety school in September, of course I was going to put a deposit down (too many unknowns at that time!). When I was accepted to one of my top schools in January, I let the September and middle December acceptances go. I've heard of deposits being over $1000 each, but mine were like $100 and $250, so I was willing to sacrifice that money. I would definitely echo the above comment and encourage you to make a decision sooner, rather than later, given that you have the appropriate pieces of the puzzle to decide.

I'm not sure about the financial aid stuff. I don't think I did financial aid stuff until late April, to start school in June (but I may be remembering that wrong).
