I was just wondering if anyone has sent a copy of published research papers or papers undergoing publication to med schools for it to be put in your file?? Thanks!

I called several schools to find out if they preferred paper or email updates on a recent publication; a nice woman at one promptly said "Email, and a couple of paragraphs or less."

I imagine that adcoms aren't going to read anything longer than a citation, even if you go to the trouble of mailing it to schools. You can always bring a copy to the interview in case someone asks.

I was told by a dean not to, largely because it screws up their filing cabinets, and so he just wanted them listed (on AMCAS). Others have possibly been advised differently. My advice, check with the schools and see if they want it first, before sending it.

send an update letter or email with the reference and a one or two sentence summary. If they're interested in what you're doing, which is unlikely unless it happens to be in someone's particular field they can go look it up. But they're probably most interested in A. what # author were you and B. what journal was it published in, rather than what the research was actually about.
