I am in a desperate situation. I freaked myself out and failed CK the first attempt, and I'm applying for Ob/Gyn. Luckily, I didn't send my scores automatically, so programs don't know yet. I'm retaking it on NYE. The programs at the top of my rank list are pretty competitive, and w/ my #s, I was lucky to get those interviews in the first place. So, my question is should I send my scores out when I get my passing score to all the programs? Some programs specifically asked for it, and told me to email it to the PD directly. So, would it be totally horrible of me to email them my 2nd score report only and not transmit via ERAS? A friend of mine who failed Step I said they only listed his 2nd score on the 2nd report. The programs that asked for it said they need a passing score on file in order to be ranked. So it would make no sense for me to even send the failing report, right? The NRMP stats from last year have 95% of Ob/Gyn PDs saying they either seldom or never rank a student who failed their first attempt. I am going on 25 interviews, so my rank list is going to be super long, but I am still incredibly worried that I won't match even though I'm a US Grad. Any advice/insight would be super helpful!

Good question. I know a lot of OBGYN programs need a Step 2 CK to rank. Or at least they rather rank an applicant who has a step 2 CK score, and majority of them will by rank time.

You still have until late February for the final rank list, but I bet programs start putting together an idea of their rank list in early Feb. Some programs do a rolling rank list.

Either way, programs will see that non-passing step 2 score. When your retake score comes out, your failing score will show. Believe that. ALL scores are listed on the transcript. The main difference is timing.

I would release the score after all the interviews. Hopefully, you will retake the CK very soon. The reason why is that sometimes interviewers pull up your screen right before they interview you. They'll undoubtely see that failing score, will definitely ask you during the interview, and it'll be stuck in their minds when they decide on what part of the rank list you will be on. It's all strategy.

Best person to ask, though, is aProgDirector.
