I have been accepted to IU and I want to send an update letter to them before they do a background check and look at my final transcripts. For IU, we have to sign a legal disclosure form saying the following:

. ever been arrested for, convicted of, or pled guilty or no contest to a felony, misdemeanor, or any offense other than a minor traffic violation (unless the conviction was expunged by a court);

. any criminal charges pending against them;

. ever participated in a first offender, deferred adjudication or pretrial diversion, or other program or arrangement where judgment or conviction has been withheld.

. ever been refused admission or subject to any disciplinary action (e.g. threatened or actual dismissal, expulsion, or probation) at any previous school;

. ever engaged in any behavior that resulted in serious injury to any person(s) or personal property.

(These are all taken from the legal disclosure form and I just copy and pasted it on here)

I signed it not thinking I had anything substantial on my record. Now looking back, I feel like I should have disclosed my suspended license due to two traffic violations within a year. I also did get a ticket for skateboarding on private property back when I was fifteen, but I believe that once you turn eighteen in Illinois, that gets wiped from your record. Because I tend to worry a lot about these things and wanting to make sure I retain my acceptance, I have decided to send an update on this before they do a background check.

Lastly, I have gone from thirteen credit hours this semester down to six without updating my AMCAS. That is all I needed to graduate as this is my fifth year technically. I am including this as well and hoping it doesn't affect me at all.

Should I have anything to worry? I would be upset if something that I misunderstood early on in the process to take away my acceptance because I was not upfront with admissions. Any and all advice will be great! Thanks guys!

Absolutely do not send that email

Why’s that? I don’t disagree with you, but I would just like to know! I asked the admissions office and they said to send it if it would give me peace of mind. Thanks for your your advice!

Dear school,

Thanks for the acceptance. Here is a list of things I hid from you/misled you about/lied about. Hope nothing changes.

Sincerely,

Ah, I see your point. I did not try to hide anything, I guess I just misinterpreted the Legal Disclosure form. Thanks for that.

If you need peace of mind, run a background check on yourself. But do not send that letter.

Nobody really cares about future credit hours provided you graduate in time to matriculate.

I have, and nothing pops up, so I guess I have been worrying for no reason. Thanks again!

Nobody cares about traffic violations, and it says so as much in the legal disclosure bit. Go get yourself a popsicle

Your suspended license has no effect, assuming none of your violations were misdemeanors (speed contest, DUI, etc)

Haha thanks, guys! I’m feeling better about it. None of my tickets were misdemeanors. I think I’ll get myself the whole box of popsicles!
