To all of you recently accepted and anxiously awaiting podiatry school this fall, how far are you sliding? My priorities this term are fly fishing, skiing, minimizing studying, and brewing beer. Anyone else pick a new hobby?

fly fishing? cool

ah, the day in the life of a student.... good times

yeah, catching salmon or steelhead or really any kind of trout on the fly is a fun time. Plus those guys are really tasty. Being a student is nice. How bad is it being a resident? Your not too far from being a contributing member of society, which has to be a nice thing.

it's not bad at all. Then again, i live alone and make my own schedule when i'm not "on duty". I have to say, it must be tougher for my fellow residents who are married or co-habitate. I really can't imagine having a kid, but then again, my other residents who have kids do seem a lot happier about life than me. I guess "free-time" versus "family time"... i wouldn't be a good person to ask about that.

ha, contributing member of society means higher taxes...

I'll be catching up on loads of leisure reading, working at a pharmacy ringing out OxyContin to the masses, and on my off days...relaxing at the beach. Although I feel like I should be studying SOMETHING...:scared:

i went ahead and graduated in december so i have about 6 months break till pod school starts. the break means im workin at the local home depot driving the forklift all over the store 40 hrs/week. All i know is im headed to cancun in may!!!

Been working full time at a research center since I graduated in Dec. 06. Right now, getting the house ready to sell (argh!), and preparing mentally for the move from Phoenix to Chicago. The winters are going to kick my butt! I'll probably review some OChem & Biochem before classes start. Depending on how early we get up there, I might get a pt job at Starbucks or something for awhile as well. I hate it when I'm not busy.

75 degrees in Phoenix today, and sunny

Moving to chicago will mean an upgrade in my daily weather...yes, that's right an upgrade!

Aside from physics, my classes are a breeze this semester. I've been working my way through my shelf of 'leisure reading books' that I bought but never had time to read. Also, I've picked up marathon training 😕. I'm still trying to remember why I thought this was a good idea. Oh- and procrastination. Thats probably my new favorite hobby, which I will have to ditch when august comes.

My physics class is a pain in the ***. Which one are you taking? I hope it's not statistical mechanics. That class blows!

there's a starbucks next to the school where 3 of my freakin classmates worked at... haha. One actually became a part-time manager! She got us discounts, we were there all the time, but it usually got crowded and loud very often so i stopped going there by my 2nd year (after a ton of caffiene at a discount!)

Yeah, i think they're used to hiring ppl from the university so you should be able to schedule around your school schedule. it's tough, but one of the guys did REALLY well in school and got a great program for residency. If you hate being bored... do you know anything about VIDEO EDITING?? If so, i got a GREAT paying job for you at the university.

It'll be a change of pace for me for sure. I'm looking forward to it.

No, its not statistical mechanics, thank god. Its the college-algebra based one. But its still a pain in the ***. The teacher told me that he never gives out A's. WHY?? I shouldn't complain too much about him, I had a family situation and he let me completely skip a test! Oh, I love undergrad. It will be a lot different next year!

never gives out A's...
That sounds familiar, and is probably why I have never gotten a straight A in a physics course ever. Damned A-'s all the way in each physics course I've taken. That's cool to hear that you got out of an exam. Which school are you heading to next fall?

I am taking 20 credits even, but it doesnt seem that bad. I look at as that I am staying in the groove of studying, which hopefully stays with me when I start in the fall. But fishing, i cant wait for, where i am from we have a huge fishing tourement called salmon a rama out on lake michigan, so thats something to look forward to.

You're not the only one with 20 credits this term. I took 20 for graduation reqs. The salmon runs in my neck of Michigan are pretty sweet. Where are you from in Michigan?

DMU, I'm pretty excited to get down to Des Moines and have real stuff to learn. Where are you going??

Na, I am from racine, wisconsin. It is just south of milwaukee. but i have been checking out des moines and they dont really have too much for fshing areas, just des moines river and slayor lake, its not lake michigan but it water at least

Racine has great kringle (sp?)!

I think if I get a job at Starbucks in Chicago, it'll be short lived. But just long enough to keep me busy until school starts and help w/some income in the interim.

Racine's kringle is the best. My parents used to get that stuff for the holidays.

yeah i take it for granted since you can get it almost anywhere, but when i leave i will miss it then.

bass fishing owns 👍

steelhead and salmon are bigger and better!

bass may own since it may be texas, man the stories and pics i have seen from bass fishing in texas, but give me kings and trouts any day, there is nothing like reeling in 35+lbs of fish (unless your on the ocean 🙂 )

Agreed. Plus, salmon and steelhead are good eating.

Aside from ochem dos I'm busting my ace in a hospital pharmacy yelling at stupid nurses. I can't wait to get out. I don't even care about class, I just wanna finish and bounce.

Don't hate on the nurses. They have a tough job, and will make or break you when you are a resident, or a practicing physician. I didn't apperciate everything they do until I worked with them. They really do make hospitals run, work as a CNA in a busy hospital and you'll see what I mean.
