Hey all,

I have three credits open next semester and can't decide what elective to take. I would like to take it outside the sciences. The only things that don't interest me are the fine arts. Any suggestions? (I was thinking maybe a history or literature class)

Thank you for your time!

I don't know anything about your situation, but regardless, enjoy your senior year, especially if you plan on going to medical school. I had all but one class completed for my major (a spectroscopy lab...yes it was awful), so I took classes like: tennis, advanced tennis, computers in the modern world, the history of film, and healthcare economics. Despite this, my GPA dropped a full tenth (our basketball team went to the national championship...legitimate excuse). I wouldn't change a thing.

If you are not yet accepted or are shooting for some sort of honors, then, by all means, plug away. But, do understand that nothing you will take will give you a leg-up at the next level.

Anyway, enjoy your senior year! I took an art history class freshman year and liked it...my favorite classes from undergrad were undoubtedly film history and tennis, though.

What about fiction writing? I am senior and just enrolled in a intro to fiction writing class for fun. It is way out of my comfort zone but at the same time super fun. Too artsy?

Another class I took for personal interest was an anthropology class about ethnography. Basically I got to interview people and people watch and then write about it. If you haven't taken any anthropology class then an intro anthro course could be interesting...

The one class that I really wanted to take but couldn't was Game Theory. It conflicted with P Chem and there was only one section of each. Even if you don't enjoy economics, it's pretty interesting. The Prisoner's Dilemma is a relatively simple concept but you would be surprised to see how much has been written about it.

Ask around and take a class with the amazing professor your humanities friends always mention 🙂

Disclosure: I'm biased with a degree in humanities...

Good advice, thanks! I will look into sports-related classes 🙂

I used to write stories when I was younger (didn't we all?). We have a creative writing class, but it may be too much work for the stage IV senoritis that I'll have!

Maybe I am not broadly educated enough, but what exactly is Game Theory?

Don't take anything, pre-read and learn gross anatomy 😛

I have to in order to meet my requirements. I'm one of those slackers who is barely meeting credit requirements 😀

Might take you up on this during the summer, if I'm accepted and not too fried. Thanks!
