So this year I have only taken 8 classes total. My school is on the quarter system so 3 fall quarter, 2 winter quarter (part-time), and 3 spring quarter. I did this because I was approaching the credit cap my school has as well as save money during my part-time quarter. I was wondering where if anywhere I should mention this on my application. I'm not sure how to work it into my primary or if I will have room on my secondaries to do this.

Also, do you think these reasons, money and credit cap, are legitimate reasons for taking so few classes? Will med schools hold this against me?

Thanks

Don't mention it anywhere. This is probably never going to come up. If you have solid stats, then no one will hold this against you.

So you don't think med schools will think I'm slacking off or something?

Unless you started out with a lower GPA and are trying to significantly bring it up this year, this is nothing to worry about. Taking fewer classes for senior year is actually pretty common since you will have to plan on making lots of free time for travel for interviewing (this is especially true if you applied to many schools and plan on going to multiple interviews). Most med schools will probably just assume that was the case for you taking a light semester and not give any more thought about it.

If, and only if an interviewer actually asks you about this at some point (which is highly unlikely), I would explain your case to him/her the way you did here. But otherwise, don't even bother mentioning it.

👍 Trust me, it's pretty common and not going to come up. In the off chance it does, I agree with the poster below.
