Senior year Grades when on Waitlist

I know some schools require the senior year grades sent if put on a waitlist. How much do people think the new grades factor into the decision to take someone off of the waitlist?

my friend was applying to pharm school and was accepted off the waitlist at his state school. they said that the big reason they chose him was his impressive senior year grades.

i'm curious about if this plays any role w/med schools
