Can anyone help me with this question?

A dentist anesthetizes a nerve in order to eliminate painful sensations that may result from a procedure to be performed on a mandibular tooth. Where do the anesthetized pain fibers synapse?

A. Main sensory nucleus of CN V
B. Mesencephalic nucleus of CN V
C. Spinal nucleus of CN V
D. Trigeminal ganglion
E. Ventral posterior medial nucleus of the thalamus

Touch sensations from the ant. 2/3 of the tongue are carried by nerves that synapse in which nucleus?

A. Main sensory nucleus of CN V
B. Mesencephalic nucleus of CN V
C. Spinal nucleus of CN V
D. Trigeminal ganglion
E. Ventral posterior medial nucleus of the thalamus

Where are these questions from? Doesn't seem likely that this stuff would be tested on step 1.

OK so pain/temp is easy to remember... what is the pain/temp pathway for the extremities? SPINOthalamic tract. Guess where the pain/temp fibers of the face/mouth go to? The SPINAL nucleus of V! So the answer to the first Q is definitely C. Then for touch of ant 2/3 tongue you have innervation via CN V, and that will go to the main sensory nucleus of CN V, so the answer to the 2nd Q is A. The only CN V stuff going to the mesencephalic nucleus of V is proprioception, and that is the one CN V sensory tract that does not go through the trigeminal ganglion.

Hope this helps!
