Quick question for the masses...We had an adult patient who we were concerned for a septic hip, got tapped by ortho using fluoroscopy, ended up having group A strept growing in his joint...in any case, I'm presenting the case for a case report and there seems to be a pretty big wide range as to who taps a hip joint. The text books I took a look at ranged from EPs and radiologist using ultrasound to ortho using fluoro to IR using CT guidance. I was wondering what others experience with this was, who taps your hips where you are?

I'm pretty hard-core EM...but I wouldn't suggest EM-docs tap hips...unless very skilled with UTS and there's a huge effusion.

Even I admit, this is a case for an early consult.
