can any one tell me' is serotonin a potent vaso constrictor or a dialator?????????????'
diff sources have diff answers..........i m confused

i guess it may depend on the concentration...
plz explain

Serotonin is a potent vasoconstrictor, as long as the vessels are normal and healthy. If they are damaged, as in cases of vascular disease, it causes vasodilation. It also vasodilates peripheral areas of the body.

There are NUMEROUS papers written on the vasodilation AND vasoconstriction effects of Serotonin, hence the OP's confusion.

its a vasoconstrictor... a vasoactive amine released by platelets in response to vascular injury....

It is also a vasodilator. In peripheral areas of the body serotonin typically causes vasodilation.

Serotonin dilates vessels of skin and skeletal muscles (peripheral areas) and consticts those of brain, lungs, internal organs, uterus, kidneys and some more.
