I'm a bit confused as to what this is exactly a measure of. Is the level only increased secondary to erythroid hyperplasia and increased concentration of nRBC's? Or can nRBC's upregulate TfR (i.e. it would be possible to have elevated sTfR without increased numbers of nRBC's)
