I was recently asked to serve as an expert reviewer for a fairly well-known global health journal. Came as a bit of a shock since I'm not really an "expert" on the topic, though I have submitted two first-author papers on the same topic to the same journal. Two questions:

(1) Is it even appropriate for me (a recent college grad with experience but little formal training in this area) to be reviewing a paper that happens to be written by one of the gods in this particular field?

(2) If I do accept this role and mention it on the AMCAS, will adcoms think I've overstepped my limits in any way? In other words, will they think I'm doing more than I am capable of doing?

Thanks in advance for your help!

They wouldn't have asked you to review if they didn't think you could handle it.

Review away.

Congrats!

Congratulations! Do it!
