Setting denture teeth

Just wanted to know if anyone was taught (or has learned any techniques by some other means) to speed up the process of setting denture teeth. I can set the teeth just fine, but the problem is I run out of time b/c I am spending most of my time removing the wax rims I spent an hour making. I just wanted to throw it out there and see if anyone had been taught a quicker method that may help me and all those other poor second years that have to go through the pain of a denture setup! Setting teeth sucks, but like most things you'll get quicker with more experience.

I don't have any tips for you, I just wanted to let you know that there is life after setting denture teeth (such as having the lab do it) 😀.

I don't remove the wax rims when doing a denture setup. I place the teeth in the wax rim and trim away the excess. One of the things that helped me was not hesitating to make a change when you're 'almost' there. It's like a frickin rubick's cube.

Want to make your life easier? Try this...

1. Make your bases THIN! Newbie mistake is to make them too thick and then end up grinding on the bases or teeth and have a "acrylic dust bowl" party! 2-2.5 mm max is all you need.

2. Make your wax rim THIN too. Rims are to determine lip support and have enough wideness to support your bite registration. Make your rims as thin as the occlusal/incisal table. Too thick rims require wasted time to remove them.

3. Do as I advise and you will see that a little grinding on the denture teeth is all you need. Most of the time, it is simply a matter and heat the wax and stick your teeth in. I do all my setup with the patient at the chair (30 minutes or less). DP
