If you love medicine and what you are doing, then accept the fact that unfortunate situations occur in any occupation.
Get to some support group, or even plug in with a therapist ASAP.
There are so many procedures in place to remedy this situation.
1. HR
2. HR
3. HR

That simple. You document with HR at the hospital. Do not discuss with other residents, nurses, etc. Just simple HR. They can file an informal complaint, or a formal complaint.
Formal usually goes with attorney.

I also suggest you contact an employment attorney in your area, but first, discuss with family. YOu may have a relative attorney who can refer you to the correct person.

Just because you get professional advice from an attorney does NOT mean anything but that. You do not have to think action, law suit, etc.

The attorney is a way to provide objective options, and logs your situation.
It's a paper-trail, should you need to go public with this in the future.

But do NOT make any decisions to quit. There are laws and plenty of people that will support you during this difficult time.

PS - DOn't take any of our advice regarding action.

I also suggest you stop from discussing this matter on a public forum.

That's why you use an attorney, and possible therapist. The less 'WE' know, the better you will do.
Thanks

I was subject of sexual harassment in my residency program a few weeks ago. Now I don't want to go near the hospital and I wish to resign inmediately. I understand that I should give at least two week notice before leaving, but after what happened I don't want to work one more day. The problem is I'm a PGY-1, and I don't want to loose the whole year for just two weeks w/o working. HELP 🙁

Hi there,
Read the above post over and over. It contains very good advice. If you resign, your chances of getting another job are very poor at this point in the year. You will wind up doubly depressed and doubly victimized. Do not let anyone or anything keep you away from what you love.

Make a paper trail.
Get good legal advice.
Follow both institutional and extra-institutional protocols for dealing with this.
Take some time off, if you can, and be good to yourself.

The important thing is to get good advice from someone outside the institution who is YOUR advocate.

njbmd 🙂

what happened? an attending hit on you or something?

Absolutely follow the advice above.

As much as you don't want to return to work, it will hurt you in the end. You can be protected and should follow every avenue of recourse open to you. There is no reason why you should be made to be doubly victimized here - if you quit or don't show up for work, the program has the right to refuse to give you credit for the year.
