Haha.. first post ever. woot 🙂

I am in Biomedical Engineering. Does anyone know if engineering classes goes into science GPA or non-science?

In other words, does science GPA only meant natural sciences (Biology, OChem, Physics, etc) or science-related classes (thermodynamics, Biomaterials, Biomechanics, etc.)?

Yes, engineering classes go towards the science GPA. They don't go towards the BCP (biology, chemistry, physics) GPA, though.

Page 28 of the AADSAS instructions will give you more details. http://www.adea.org/dental_educatio.../ADEA AADSAS General Instructions Booklet.pdf

Do you know if plant biology courses are factored into the BCP GPA? I took a silly horticulture course a few years ago (PBIO 410) and I'm wondering if the B+ I got will bring down my BCP GPA, which is pretty solid at the moment.

From my experience ( Engineering major), all of the engineering courses count toward sGPA. I calculated myself in Excel and it matches with AADSAS sGPA calculation so I know for a fact that this is true. Good luck!!

I haven't applied yet, but from looking at the booklet versus just the list of categories I posted and thinking about it for a little bit I'll guess that plant biology courses should be classified as biology courses, especially if offered through the plant biology department. I mean, they are plant biology courses after all.

Now if it's something like agriculture, that'll go in your sGPA and not your BCP gpa. Hope that helps!

Also, a B+ isn't going to bring your BCP down that much.

Categorization goes by departments. So, if you took the plant class through the biology department, it will be categorized as biology (i.e. BIOL ####). If the class was under a different department other than biology, then it will be categorized as 'other science' 🙂 Hope this helps!

At my university it separates PBIO and ABIO, and this particular course was PBIo 410, "Intro to Horticulture." A B+ won't bring it down all that much, but it'd be nice if it weren't counted! No worries either way, I'll just have to wait and see what AADSAS does this summer. thanks for the responses!
