Hi everyone. Out of boredom, I recently attended a SGU webinar. After the webinar I was sent an email regarding the projected available residencies for SGU grads/IMG's. I figured I'd share it, just in case anyone was interested.

And FYI, I am in no way affiliated with SGU at all, and I would only consider attending the university if I did not get accepted to any U.S. med school, or Irish/Australian school after multiple attempts (I have not applied anywhere yet).

Take this little information for what it is worth. I screenshotted the email and uploaded it here: http://i.imgur.com/AFFHYoQ.jpg?1

Anyone can just post a graph and make up their own "facts" about the future.. they also have no explanation whatsoever...

Yeah, I feel you. Honestly, maybe I am a little naive in this sense, but I do not understand how SGU can enroll so many students and have so many relationships with American hospitals (for rotations), and then have massive amounts of graduates not receive residencies. It just doesn't make sense to me.

Some of those graduates never deserved to receive residencies. Would you ever give a student who got 25 on MCAT and had a 3.2 GPA and then got a 190 on his USMLE a shot at residency? Prolly not. If you go to SGU and aren't at the top of your class you don't match and its your own god damned fault.

3.2 GPA/25 MCAT are actually semi-typical DO stats for some schools, and I'm sure some talented doctors can come out of these schools.

However, I would agree with you 100% on low USMLE scores. There is no excuse for someone to complain about not getting a residency as an IMG after not passing/receiving a low Step 1, 2 etc score.

This.

I do not know where you guys are getting your avg GPA and avg Mcat scores from, but the advisor has told me that the avg last year was a 27/28 and the avg GPA is 3.6 My friend who scored a 32 on the mcat is currently attending there and my other friend who scored a 31 and has a avg GPA of 3.7 has decided to go there with me. My GPA is a 3.78 and I scored a 29 and I will be choosing sgu over lower ranking us MD schools and DO schools. In the end, it all comes down to your patients. What a graduate student told me is that he has never heard of a DO and will always pick a MD over a DO if he was given a chance. Its actually true. Majority of the people I asked so not know what a DO is.
Lowering ranking US schools have a much lower first time pass rate on the USMLE and thr stats do not lie. Also if you have not read the article explaining how Carrbbeans secure residency, then you should. Apparently they paid the hospitals and have a 10 year contract. While I know a few students who have gone to US med schools and are just sitting at home apply to residency programs. There school seemed to have failed to help secure a spot.
You also need to realize, the people who pass the USMLE are going to be good doctors, the USMLE does not change depending where you are. So scoring high at a Carb school means the same thing from from a US school. Also, Sgu is an exception compared to the other Carb schools. They have the best stats and the avg GPA and mcat is increasing every year. While Ross accepts a large bag of students, and the people who finishes are only a small hand full. It is like R selection from evolution LOL
