So I'm actually currently in my PCPs office now. She is a DO. She's so awesome. I would love to shadow her. So of course I asked. She said her and a group of physicians allow shadowing if I'm affiliated with a school?? Now she lets medical assistant students do clinical rotations here etc..but she was explaining the issue with HIPPA etc. So how can I resolve this? Or has anyone else experienced this? I think I read something about this on another thread but I couldn't find it. Any thoughts or advice would be helpful.

Ask someone else. Or ask her for a recommendation for someone else who let's premeds shadow
I second this, not much else you can do. Some people argue about HIPPA not being an issue for shadowing and stuff (seeing as some places let you shadow and some dont? yet all apply to HIPPA rules). But if your doc is saying that, then basically its not a solid place to shadow... Look for some place else.

The best places I have had shadowing are those where the physician I am under is not only an amazingly open teacher, but also conveys to their partners that I am interested in seeing any cool cases. Thereby I will essentially be able to spend time with all of the docs there.

Look for private groups of like 4-6 docs or emergency medicine, thats where I have had the best luck.

Ask if her clinic will be having a HIPPA compliance workshop/seminar in the near future that you can partake in - it's something that all new workers have to go through anyway.
