I am a pre med/pre dental student and i want to shadow a dentist over the summer. I heard that there are lists with contact info of dentists that provide shadowing opportunities for students. How do i find such a dentist?

Most dentists will allow you to shadow. I've never heard of any list. Your school might carry a list of alumni who are dentists and are willing to have an extern at their clinic.

Just call up any dentist nearby and ask if you can shadow him. Try to shadow a GP and a specialist of some sort. Also, ever clinic is run differently. Make sure you're comfortable with the setting, since you'll mostly be just standing around looking at procedures.

What you need to do is go interview for a dental assistant spot. They'd probably reject you, but during the interview, just mention that you're looking to part time just to learn from a dentist/job shadow. That way, you get on the job training and whtaever. Really, anyone can be a dental assistant... no formal training is required to be a dental assistant.

Also, mention that you're willing to work for a reduced wage... even free!

Just look up dentists in your area and give them a call. Most dentists dont have a problem with students shadowing them.
